"Send Nudes" - Black and White on Canvas

"Send Nudes" - This is quite the deviation from my usual mediums and subject matter. But this was oh so much fun to paint and there will probably be more coming along this line! This painting was featured in September, 2023 at an all subject juried art show in at the DeBlois Gallery in Newport, Rhode Island.

Send Nudes is a stark, unapologetic black-and-white acrylic figure painting that confronts modern dating culture head-on. Rendered full-frontal and without embellishment, the figure stands exposed—not seductively, but deliberately—mirroring the blunt transactional tone that has come to dominate online dating spaces.

Created in response to the casually dehumanizing phrase “send nudes,” this work strips the request of its humor and flips the power dynamic. What’s left is not titillation, but vulnerability, defiance, and truth. The absence of color removes distraction, forcing the viewer to reckon with form, presence, and intention. There is nowhere to look away—and that’s the point.

This piece lives in the tension between agency and objectification, intimacy and entitlement. It asks uncomfortable questions about desire, consent, and how quickly connection has been reduced to consumption in the digital age.

As a print, Send Nudes is for collectors who appreciate art that challenges, provokes conversation, and reflects the cultural moment we’re living in—unfiltered, honest, and a little uncomfortable.
